Traveling to SALARA is more than just arriving at a resort, it’s part of the Baja experience. Whether you’re coming from Los Cabos or La Paz, the drive to El Pescadero offers breathtaking scenery, quiet desert roads, and a taste of the local culture that makes this region so special.
From Los Cabos to SALARA
- Distance: ~85 km (53 miles)
- Drive time: Around 1 hour 15 minutes
Leaving Cabo San Lucas or Cabo San José, Highway 19 winds north along the Pacific. The road is well-paved and scenic, with views of sand dunes meeting turquoise waves. About halfway, you’ll start to feel the shift, the resorts fade, the desert opens, and Baja’s calm rhythm takes over.
Recommended stops:
- El Gaspareño or El Chorro viewpoints – quick photo spots with dramatic coastline views.
- Art & Coffee (Cerritos Beach) – perfect espresso stop just before you reach Pescadero.
- Playa Los Cerritos – one of Baja’s best beginner surf beaches, great to stretch your legs.
After Cerritos, it’s a short 5-minute drive to SALARA, tucked quietly between the mountains and the sea.
From La Paz to SALARA
- Distance: ~95 km (59 miles)
- Drive time: About 1 hour 30 minutes
From La Paz, take Highway 19 south. The drive begins through rolling desert and cactus fields, gradually descending toward the Pacific. You’ll pass small farming towns, roadside taco stands, and glimpses of ocean blue. The route is straightforward and well-marked.
Worthwhile stops:
- El Triunfo – a charming 19th-century mining town; stop for photos and a pastry at Café El Triunfo.
- Viewpoint near San Pedrito – one of Baja’s best sunset views before arriving in Pescadero.
What to Expect on the Road
- Condition: Highway 19 is fully paved, safe, and maintained year-round. Cellular signal is strong most of the way.
- Gas: Fill up in Cabo, La Paz, or Todos Santos, stations are limited near Pescadero.
- Weather: Daytime drives are best
